Roma 3-7 November 2014

The objective of this course was to reinforce the knowledge of the regional Information Sharing Centres’ (ISCs) staff when conducting their daily work. It illustrated the three axes of monitoring and analysis 1) A sound knowledge of the Geographic Information System (GIS) installed in each of the 3 ISCS/RMRCCs facilitating the work of the operators when tracking vessels 2) The wealth of data provided by the Vessel Traffic Monitoring and Information Systems 3) The added value when the variety of data is complemented with additional information available amongst the community of the maritime stakeholders.

The General Managers and 2 operators of the 3 Information Sharing Centres of Mombasa, Dar es Salaam and Sana’a attended this course in Roma at Italian Coast Guard headquarters. They discussed how technology today facilitates the cooperation amidst different maritime stakeholders (private and public). As follow-up, the Yemeni Ministry of Transport gathered different national stakeholders in the maritime domain and explore ways for concrete actions to improve the interagency cooperation and coordination, benefiting from the experience of the ReMISC Sana’a acting as go-between agency.
